As we roll into the last unofficial wknd. of summer, here is the picture (courtesy of USA TODAY) of a man whose life is spiraling out of control. His name is Lamar Odom, and it can be said that his life has always been in chaos. His father is a drug addict, his mother died from cancer when Lamar was 12-years-old, and his own son died when the child was 6-and-a-half-months-old. Lamar has been blessed in some ways. He has physical size and ability to be a pro basketball player. He won two championships in the NBA when he played for the Los Angeles Lakers. He has made million$ of dollar$ playing a game that many of us love and enjoyed playing as kids for free. But, as we all know, money doesn't buy happiness. Mo' money, mo' problems. Lamar was arrested at 3:25am today for driving under the influenece (DUI) on the 101 Freeway in LA. This, just days after he vanished from his wife, reality TV star Khloe Kardashian, a woman who became famous because her sister Kim made a porn video with her ex-boytoy. We've all heard of the Kardashians, a family who never turns down a camera or the spotlight. While this family can't be blamed for the actions of a pampered millionaire athlete, can't we assume that being constantly followed by cameras on a 24/7 basis is not healthy for anyone, yet alone a person with a checkered family history? Adults have to take responsibilty for their own actions, as the courts will decide for Odom, but when it comes time to think of the Kardashian clan, are the million$ that they pocket worth it for the damage that surrounds them? Kim was married (for a half moment) to another NBA player after making big bucks selling the rights to the wedding (and can be said her soul) to the world, then dumping him and moving on to having a child out of wedlock with rapper Kanye West. All of course captured on tape for the family reality show "Keeping up with the Kardashians", produced by her mom and Ryan Seacrest, who also suffers from overexposure himself. So, when you sit down for the holiday BBQ and family fun this wknd., take time to give thanks for what we have. We may not have huge bank like these 'stars", but we also hopefully have less drama and headaches than they do. Less spotlight, mo' happiness?
Born in Canandaigua NY, Pete Kennedy grew up the youngest of 5 Irish kids of Marian and T. Hamilton Kennedy. His dad "Ham" was elected as Mayor of the city of Canandaigua and served 14 years while his youngest son Pete stole the title "Mayor". Ham earned the title and Pete pilfered it.
Pete helped a bunch of his buds at St. Marys School to found an actual radio station that played music over the PA system during lunch. Many of the nuns were less than impressed by the musical selections this young mob played over WSMR. Later, "Mayor" also served as captain of his beloved Canandaigua Academy football team the Braves.
After successfully graduating from SUNY Geneseo where he spent many hours "studying" humanity while DJing and bartending at the world famous Inn Between, he somehow bribed a radio dude to hire him. Check him out daily on your Drive home.
