Here's all the fun things going on this weekend, but let's start with a really cool idea coming to downtown ROC Friday night: Movies with a Downtown View.

Remember drive-in theaters?  There's still a few around, out in Perry and Avon. Well this is a similar concept, except you can ride your bike in or walk into Martin Luther King Park at Manhattan Square to take in a flick in the city.

This unique concept kicks off at 7p with games for the kids before rolling the movie at dusk in the park. This week's movie is "Almost Famous" starring Philip Seymour Hoffman.  It's perfect timing as the Fairport grad and Oscar winner would have celebrated his 47th birthday this week.  And he is wonderful in this movie.

Ya gotta have popcorn with a good flick, right?  The first 250 to arrive at the free movie will get free popcorn and juice.  And a chance to check out the work underway at the soon-to-be revitalized Midtown Tower, where construction has finally started.  All this is being spurred by Buckingham Properties, who is not only developing the city center, but also sponsoring the free movie night downtown.

Let's hope this is just another move in the right direction for the resurrection of downtown.
