The first big wknd. of football season is here. The Bills are undeafeated (as of this writing) and all is well in the world. I'm guessing by Sun. afternoon this may change for Buffalo fans if Tom Brady does....well, what Tom Brady does to the Bills. But I digress....below are some of the fun things that football widows (and "ball fans) can do to fill the time with fun this wknd.:
>> Thirsty for beer? The Irish Festival takes over Camp Eastman at Durand Eastman Park on Lakeshore Blvd. Hours: Fri. 4p-11p, Sat. 12p-11p and Sun. 12p-6p. Did I say there is beer there?
>> Thirsty for art? The M&T Clothesline Arts Festival is set up on the grounds on the Memorial Art Gallery on University Ave. Sat. and Sun. afternoons.
>> Thirsty for a real man? The Lumberjack Festival swings a big ax at the Macedon Center Firemen's Field Sat. starting at 9a, and Sun. at 10a. Info; 315.986.3732.
>> Thirsty for school spirit? With school back in session this week, the first wknd. of Section V football kicks off. Some of the games Fri: Pittsford-Sutherland @ Gates-Chili, Greece Arcadia @ Eastridge, my Canandaigua Braves @ Honeyoe Falls-Lima, Hornell @ LeRoy, Pal-Mac@ Wayne. Action continues Sat. at 2p with Brighton @ Greece Olympia and Spencerport @ Greece Athena, while Fairport travels to Webster Thomas for a 7p kickoff.
>> Thirsty to help a good cause? The Firehouse Saloon (814 S. Clinton Ave in Rochester 14620) hosts a benefit in association with the School of the Holy Childhood Sun. from 2p-Midnight to benefit the Rochester Fire Dept. There will be plenty of live music, food, drink, football on the tube and silent auction items. Last year the Firehouse raised over $6000 for the Webster FD. God bless all of our heroes in uniform and God bless our troops during a stressful wknd. in the Middle East.
