Can you imagine running 100 miles in the heat? How 'bout doing it for our vets who would never complain about such a hike?
Here's a great way to support those vets and a runner who will take the 100 mile challenge for them...all while you and I sit comfortably reading this screen:
RUNNING FOR THE VETS
On August 9th, 2014 I will once again be running in the Summer Beast of Burden 100 Mile Ultramarathon being held in Lockport, N.Y. along the Erie Canal towpath. This year I am running to raise money for the Veterans Outreach Center (VOC). Most people do not know the VOC is an independent non-profit agency that relies heavily on donations. The programs and services they provide to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families are free of charge, without question. I am proud to say many of my pacers who will take turns running 12.5 miles with me during the race are veterans, to include; Chief Todd Baxter (ret., US Army, Executive Director of VOC), Lt. Aaron Springer (US Army), Inv. Ryan Hickey (US Army), Off. Brian Sexstone (US Army and Air Force) in addition to Commander Pete Brunett (ret.), Lt. Scott Peters and Off. Eric Alexander. I am humbly asking that you help an outstanding agency which in turn helps those that have sacrificed much for us. My goal is to complete the 100 miles in 18 hours. If you pledge 20 cents a mile and I complete the 100 miles you would owe $20.00. If at mile 75 I pass out and get rushed to the hospital you would only owe $15.00. The process is simple- email your pledge to me at BS813@cityofrochester.gov. After the race I will let you know how many miles I completed. The race details/results can also be viewed at summer100.com. I will then send an email with your total and you can send your donation to me through the inter-departmental mail. All of the money donated will go directly to the VOC. Please feel free to pass this email on to anyone you think may be interested in donating.
