The National is calling off plans to visit Ukraine and Russia this summer. The indie rockers have cancelled a trio of concerts in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Kiev citing the "ongoing political crisis in the region."
The group said Tuesday that they hope the current instability will be resolved in a "positive, democratic, and peaceful way." They say they'd like to return to the stage in those cities as soon as possible, but for now the band is busy with the latest U.S. leg of their "Trouble Will Find Me" tour.
Gigs in Texas and California are on the schedule this week, followed by appearances at Atlanta's Shaky Knees Festival and Sasquatch in Quincy, Washington next month.
