Rochester, N.Y. - Rochester police are mourning the loss of one of their own. An officer was killed last night in the line of duty for the first time since 1959.

Police Chief Mike Ciminelli says it happened around 9:25 Wednesday night while the officer was chasing a suspect near Hudson Avenue and Warsaw Street.

The officer died at Rochester General. The suspect was also shot and wounded. He underwent surgery at the hospital.

An innocent bystander was also shot. That injury is not considered life-threatening.

Police have not released the identity of officer that was killed. Chief Ciminelli says that will be released when notification of the family is complete. More details are expected to be given later on Thursday.

Chief Ciminelli says there are no additional suspects.
