(13WHAM) Palmyra, N.Y. - A fire that started at 2:40 p.m. Friday severely damaged four buildings on East Main Street in Palmyra.

It took about four hours for firefighters to get the blaze under control. Around 13 fire companies responded to the scene from both Monroe and Wayne counties.

One person was rescued from the fire and taken to the hospital. Additionally, three firefighters had to be treated for dehydration and heat exhaustion.

According to the Red Cross, nine people have been displaced because of the blaze.

The fire was declared under control at 7 p.m.

Officials credit the lack of firewalls for the rapid spread of the flames.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, and crews are still on scene monitoring the situation.
