Rochester, N.Y. - Wegmans will allow part-time employees to work more hours in order to stay eligible for health insurance benefits.

Wegmans announced Thursday that they were changing the eligibility requirements for part-time employees.

Currently, part-time employees working 20 or more hours a week are eligible for health benefits through Wegmans.

According to a Wegmans spokesperson, starting in 2015, only employees working 30 hours or more per week will be eligible for the company’s healthcare coverage. These changes are being brought about due to the Affordable Care Act.

A Wegmans representative released this statement Saturday:

We will work with employees in partnership through these changes. In some cases that will mean scheduling additional hours for employees who are able to expand their availability to work
