Rochester's New Home for Elvis Duran!

Charlotte neighbors organize over development concerns

Posted June 15th, 2014 @ 9:39am by Bud Lowell

A group organizing in Charlotte believes the city's process for choosing a Port of Rochester redevelopment project was "flawed from the beginning" and it wants the city to issue a new Request for Proposals.

More than 100 people met in Charlotte Saturday to form "Charlotte Strong."

One of the founders is Clare Stortini, a member of the Charlotte Community Association. She says this is not just because the city's preferred developer wants to build a high-rise tower in their neighborhood, but because they believe the Edgewater Resources project doesn't meet a number of the city's own requirements, set during a lengthy process of community meetings.

Stortini says there seems to be a disconnect between the Request for Proposals issued last year by the Tom Richards administration and the choice of developer by the new administration of Mayor Lovely Warren.

They plan to go before City Council Tuesday night with their concerns.
